For the 14th consecutive year, BWH was chosen for the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll of America’s Best Hospitals, moving up on the prestigious list from number 12 to 11.
In the guide’s grading of the best hospitals, BWH ranked among the top 10 in six categories: Heart and Heart Surgery, Endocrinology, Digestive Disorders, Gynecology, Kidney Disease and Rheumatology. BWH placed in the top 20 in Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Respiratory Disorders and Urology.
“BWH’s consistent presence on the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll is a reflection of the dedication of our people to our mission,” BWH President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, said. “Their commitment to provide the very best care to our patients, to explore new horizons through research and to lend their vision to the next generation of health care professionals makes BWH a truly remarkable hospital.”
Massachusetts General Hospital ranked fourth on the list. MGH and BWH were the only hospitals in New England to earn Honor Roll distinction.
McLean Hospital ranked fourth among America’s psychiatric programs and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital ranked seventh for rehabilitation centers. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute placed fifth in cancer services. The top 50 hospitals are ranked in each category.
Since 1989, U.S. News & World Report annually has reviewed 17 specialties at thousands of American medical centers to compose its Honor Roll. This year, the magazine surveyed more than 5,000 hospitals, and just 176 of them scored high enough in at least one specialty to gain a place among the top 50 rankings. Just 14 of the hospitals qualify for the Honor Roll by ranking at or near the top in at least six specialties.
